Safer Recruitment of Volunteers

Safer recruitment of volunteers

In a nutshell, safer recruitment means that you know who’s volunteering for you, have evidence to confirm this and that each volunteer is suitably prepared to undertake the tasks you are asking of them.

For some roles, ideally DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checks, once known as the CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) should be done for your volunteers. Examples are where money is being handled, or driving a vulnerable person to an appointment.

There is funding available through the VSI Alliance in Calderdale to help voluntary and informal groups access DBS Checks – DBS Funding Scheme Nov 2020
